What do I do if I encounter a Blue Screen error (BSOD)?

Modified on Mon, 4 Nov at 11:06 AM

If you encounter a Blue Screen error (or BSOD for short), take note of the error code given at the bottom of the screen prior to the PC restarting itself.  When a Blue Screen error occurs, Windows will create what are called "dump files" that can be used to determine the cause of the error.  They can typically be found in two locations: C:\Windows\Minidump  and C:\Windows\Memory.dmp.  Sometimes the file Memory.dmp can be a bit large, and in order to share it with a technician that is assisting you, we recommend that you make a copy of the file, compress it, and if it's too large to attach to an email, place it in a cloud storage service such as Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive and provide a link to the files location.
